Restor(y)ing the Land
Restor(y)ing the Land is a response to an abandoned plantation that investigates ritual and remembrance as methodologies for engaging with sites marked by ecological and historical disturbance. The project was initiated through a site-specific ceremony enacted on the land and documented through digital media. This performative act subsequently informed a series of gestural and collaborative frottage and ceramic works, which function as material residues of the event. Together, these works seek to hold, translate, and extend the memory of the ceremonial encounter, allowing the land’s presence and affective charge to persist beyond the temporal limits of the event.
